Western nets 2nd in North with wins over Mott, Eagles

 Walled Lake Western won two games last week to finish second in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division at 7-3, its best ever finish in the division.

The Warriors (10-6) began the week with a 67-52 victory at Waterford Mott on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Western put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 16-4 run.

Jayla Nichols led the Warriors with 17 points. Brooke Schwandt had 14 points and Maddie Schram scored 11.

Lauren Hung led Mott with 16 points while Cristyn Pawluk had 12.

Western then returned home on Friday, Feb. 10 and defeated Huron Valley Lakeland, 42-30, thanks in part to a 14-4 run in the third quarter.

Nichols led Western with 15 points while Schram had 12 and Schwandt had 8.

Dominique Zigo led Lakeland with 11 points.

Western hosted Grand Blanc in a KLAA Lakes Conference Tournament game yesterday, Tuesday, Feb. 14, with the winner facing either Waterford Mott or Hartland tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 16.
