Student film fest slated for Feb. 3 at WB High School

West Bloomfield High School will host the Orchard Lake Student Film Festival on Friday, Feb. 3 beginning at 8:30 a.m. and lasting until 1:30 p.m., with an additional screening of films in the high school auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

The festival will include film submissions from high school students across metro Detroit in two categories — public service announcements and news reports, and short film entries.

There will also be two sets of workshops, with the morning workshop beginning at 8:45 a.m. and the afternoon workshop beginning at 12:35 p.m.

Admission to the 7:30 p.m. screening is $5.

During the morning workshop, Scott Kodrik will conduct a seminar on visual effects, while Gary Schwartz and actress Courtney Zimmer will conduct an animation seminar.

Nik Drankoski and Ric Viers will also lead a seminar on sound effects and design.

In the afternoon session, Harry Akers will conduct a seminar on lighting and grip work, while John Prusak and Michael Rubyan will lecture about documentaries.

Aaron Lebovic, Joe Elrom and Tim Thomas will also talk about career paths in film/TV and advertising.

Pam Zajac, public relations and marketing coordinator for the district, said that an Academy Award-nominated director will also be speaking at the festival, but didn’t identify the director.
