Henry Ford to add 9,600 square feet in new expansion
The West Bloomfield Township Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to approve a site plan amendment for an expansion of the West Bloomfield Henry Ford Hospital on West Maple Road.
The renovation will add 9,600 square feet to the existing facility to allow for the construction of additional operating rooms and prep/recovery areas, with the aim of providing better services for patients.
The addition will also allow for interior renovations, as well.
The facility doesn’t expect an increased the volume of surgical procedures it performs with the addition.
The commission states that the addition will take place over an existing first floor and will not increase the building’s overall height, because it will match the existing second stories in other portions of the facility. According to planners, the addition’s visibility will be minimal from ground level.
As part of the site plan amendment, Henry Ford is planning on constructing additional parking on 80 acres south of the addition site as part of a 14 Mile Road construction project, as well as negotiating with neighboring properties for leases on unused parking spaces.
There will also be a temporary gravel parking lot southwest of the hospital that will house 105 spaces for temporary use for construction and employee parking needs.
The site plan also received recommendation from the township’s engineer, Johnson & Anderson, after an engineering and stormwater review.
The township’s fire marshal and building official also gave a preliminary review, indicating no building or fire issues at the present time, but that a review will be needed as part of the permit process.
It was also determined that a woodland and wetland review would not be required because the proposed addition does not affect regulated woodlands or wetlands.
