Waterford crash claims life of Pontiac man, 26

A rollover accident that occurred on Cooley Lake Road near McDougal in Waterford Township during the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 13 resulted in the death of a 26-year-old Pontiac man. Waterford Township police are investigating a robbery that occurred Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Ronnie’s Jewelers, located at 7716 Cooley Lake Road. A pair of vehicles were stolen from the Lakes Auto Sales lot in Waterford Township on Monday, Feb. 6. Waterford Township police were called to the scene in the 4600 block of Elizabeth Lake Road on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Man gets 15-30 years for infant son’s death

A Commerce Township man will spend at least 15 years in prison after being sentenced yesterday, Tuesday, Feb. 7, for the death of his 4-month-old son. Richard Gillis, III, 23, the baby’s biological father, entered a “no contest” plea to second-degree murder/homicide and second-degree child abuse charges stemming from the June 2011 death of his infant son. Waterford police last week apprehended a suspect for his alleged role in vandalizing the chapel at Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes Church, located at 5481 Dixie Highway. Pedestrian struck, killed in Feb. 4 accident

White Lake Township resident Calvin Bacon, 21, was walking along Carroll Lake Road at around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 when a southbound vehicle struck and killed him. The driver was a 60-year-old Commerce Township woman who was uninjured in the accident.
