The following are excerpts from a telephone conversation with Sales Calls on Fire developer Sandy Barris.
Can you tell me a little bit about this application?
“It’s called Sales Calls on Fire and it is available now at the app store. Right now it is only available for the iPhone, but I am working on the android version slowly but surely. What it is: I’ve created the worlds easiest way for any sales person to track their sales numbers and goals by simply inputting what they would like to earn on a yearly basis. In the next stage you put in your current sales to date…you can then select if you would like to track your data daily, monthly or yearly. It’s built for all the sales people out there in the world. It’s a one of a kind motivational sales app for sales people that helps people track and actually reach their goals. And it puts an end to sale call reluctance and helps stop serious sales flubs.”
Why did you decide to make an app like this? What was your motive behind it?
“I had been tracking my sales calls using CRM tools like GoldMine or ACT! or salesforce.com and they were just too clunky and had too many bells and whistles. What I wanted to do was find a basic way to track what my sales activity was. I used excel spreadsheets and pieces of paper and finally, I thought there had to be an easier way. So I began drawing some pictures and coming up with some concepts to create this phone app and presented it to an app developer. I worked with them for close to three months and it launches in the apple store soon!”
You have sales experience? Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
“I’m president of the Business Marketing Services. I’ve been running a marketing company since 1988 and my strengths are in marketing. I started selling as a kid to get my first baseball glove and I’ve been selling ever since.”
Why did you think there was such a need for an app like this?
“I guess because there was nothing really easy to track my sales activities and behaviors. I searched the Internet for an app and there were basic apps, but nothing specifically made for the sales industry. There were all kinds of tracking apps out there; you can track your diet and your exercise and all sorts of different stuff but nothing made for sales people. After talking with hundreds of sales people, all of them complaining about software that had too many bells and whistles and were just too hard to use, I decided to create this app. That was my motivation to create this.”
What are your expectations for the application?
“My audacious goal is to sell 50 million of them worldwide in the next five years, but our runaway success would be one million of them in six months.”
