On Wednesday, February 6 the Young 5’s Class from Peanut Patch Preschool in Walled Lake went on their second community tour field trip. Their head teacher, Mary Austin, arranged for her class to visit businesses in the community to help her students build a better understanding of the economic concepts of goods and services.
Among the tours of the day was the United States Post Office in Walled Lake, Kroger store in West Bloomfield and Best Source Credit Union in West Bloomfield. Last fall the class toured McDonald’s restaurant in Walled Lake, the Pet Smart store in Commerce Twp. and Long’s Family Orchard in Commerce Twp. On their next community tour field trip they plan on making Pizza at Picaso Pizza in Commerce Twp., constructing a project at Lowes in Commerce Twp. and touring a local library where they’ll get their own library cards.
Acting Postmaster of Walled Lake, Marshall Brooks, and Customer Service Supervisor, Michael McCurdy, led the group of enthusiastic students on a behind the scenes tour of the Walled Lake Post Office. Students had the opportunity to color a “love” stamp, which were later displayed in the lobby. They also learned what happens to letters that they place in the mailbox and how this government agency provides a valuable service to the community. Upon leaving each child also received a postal coloring book.

Seriously! The most important thing going on in the lakes area is a preschool class touring the post office? Does anyone there know anything about newspapers? Above the fold on the cover is prime space and if that is the best you’ve got… And don’t even get me started on your typesetting. Please bring back the real Spinal Column with real journalism and put this pathetic rag out of it’s misery!
