Orchard Lake St. Mary’s fell to Novi Detroit Catholic Central, 6-1, at Compuware Arena in Plymouth on Saturday, Dec. 1 for its first loss of the season.
After Charlie Green scored an unassisted short-handed goal at the 1:52 mark of the first period for a 1-0 Shamrocks lead, Nicholas Borellis tied the game three seconds later for St. Mary’s (5-1, 1-1 in the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League North Division, 2 points) off of assists from Cooper Marody and Sammy Nardicchio.
Catholic Central (4-1, 2-1, 4 points) then went on to score 5 unanswered goals, including two in the first period, two in the second period, and one in the third.
The Shamrocks outshot the Eaglets 42-12 in the game.
Matt Sorisho and Michael Babcock each scored 2 goals and garnered 2 assists.
Derek Moore had 11 saves for the Shamrocks in net, while Will Ulrich made 36 saves for the Eaglets.
On Friday, Nov. 30, St. Mary’s shutout Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett, 8-0, at St. Mary’s Ice Arena.
The first period was scoreless before the Eaglets blitzed the Knights with 6 goals in the second period.
Taylor Bommarito and Cooper Anstett each scored 2 goals for St. Mary’s while Damian Tenuta, Eric Williams, Marody, and Nardicchio each scored a goal.
Andrew Kormos picked up the shutout in net as he made 23 saves for St. Mary’s, which outshot Liggett 48-23.
St. Mary’s will next host Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood on Saturday, Dec. 8.
