Eagles win one, lose one; Central, Northern tie

Huron Valley Lakeland split two games this past week to move to 2-1-1 on the young season.

The Eagles began their week with a 6-1 victory over Auburn Hills Avondale in their home opener at Lakeland Ice Arena on Friday, Nov. 30.

Garret Unsworth scored two goals for Lakeland, including a short-handed goal in the third period; while Jake Riutta, Joey Slenzak, Blake Anderson and Nolan Johnson each scored a goal.

Ian Farley also had 3 assists for the Eagles, who outshot the Yellow Jackets 26-20.

Adam Szymanski was the winning goaltender in net for Lakeland.

The Eagles then traveled to the Lapeer Polar Palace on Saturday, Dec. 1 and fell to the Davison Cardinals, 5-1.

Davison jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Kyle Jakubowski scored for Lakeland off an assist from Justin Pahl with 3:25 left in the first period to cut the Eagles’ deficit to a goal.

But, Connor Cowan scored for Davison just 13 seconds later for a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.

Hill finished with 2 goals for Davison, while Lakeland’s Szymanski was pulled in the third period for Cody Crafts, who held the Cardinals at bay.

Lakeland will next host two games at Lakeland Ice Arena beginning against St. Clair Shores Unified tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 5, followed by the matchup against rival Huron Valley Milford for the Barbers’ Cup on Friday, Dec. 7.

Walled Lake Central and Walled Lake Western battled to a 3-3 tie on Friday, Dec. 1.

The score was tied at 1-1 after the first period and tied at 2-2 after the second period.

Jerret Haas had a goal and 2 assists to lead the Vikings, who also tied Grand Blanc, 1-1, on Thursday, Nov. 29 thanks to a goal by Haas.
