Central falls, 1-0, to Grand Blanc; tourney run over

Walled Lake Central’s run in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 state tournament was ended with a 1-0 loss to Grand Blanc on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Troy in a regional final.

Dominic Mastromatteo scored the game’s only goal in the second half.

Denny Heyn finished with seven saves in net for the Vikings (15-6-2).

Central advanced to the regional final with a 1-0 victory over Traverse City Central in double-overtime on Tuesday, Oct. 23 in a regional semi-final.

Mark Gjura scored for Central in the second overtime session.

The Vikings had a memorable 2012 season, earning a share of its first Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division title before knocking off the team it shared the division crown with, Walled Lake Northern, in a district final.
