<

The Waterford Township Police Department does not suspect that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the early-morning crash today that killed a 23-year-old White Lake Township woman driving a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo (above) when it crashed into a delivery truck stopped at M-59 and Elizabeth Lake Road. A 23-year-old White Lake Township woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident early this morning in Waterford Township.

According to township police, the woman was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo eastbound on Highland Road (M-59) today, Thursday, Aug. 2 around 3:05 a.m. when she rear-ended a 1999 Grumman Olson delivery truck stopped at M-59′s intersection with Elizabeth Lake Road.

The woman, who was not identified in a Waterford Township Police Department press release, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the delivery truck, a 42-year-old Royal Oak man, was not injured in the accident, according to police.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and air bags were deployed in the accident, police said. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the early-morning crash that closed the intersection of M-59 and Elizabeth Lake Road for several hours.

If you have any information regarding the accident or witnessed it, contact Waterford Police Officer Mathewson at 248-618-6086 or Waterford Police Sergeant Kazyak at 248-618-6073.

If no alcohol or drugs, do they suspect that she was texting?

Hey Joe, perhaps it was AN ACCIDENT and she wasn’t doing anything wrong…

Sorry Jessica but history shows that there is no such thing as an “accident” that just happens out of the clear blue. Even if she did not slam into the truck, her odds of slamming into another car at speed traveling perpendicular to her direction and harming and/or killing another innocent driver when she ran a red light were greviously high. Unfortunate as this was, history of late clearly show that the cause of such incidents are almost always caused by drinking/drugs, falling asleep at the weel and.far to often… distracted driving. Or “texting” while at the wheel. While so very sad that such a young lady lost her life. Especially so with younger drivers. In time the facts of how and why this tragic event occured and all we can hope and pray is that when they do become clear, others learn from it, and make certain that it never happens again,

Please pray for this devastated family. This young lady was my daughter’s best friend. She was working two jobs and she may have simply fallen asleep–we don’t know for sure. It’s doubtful that she would’ve been texting at 3 am.
