Writing in Cassis

From Dennis O’Connor, vice president, Novi Board of Education:

It is unusual for non-partisan elected officials to publicly support Republican or Democratic candidates running for higher office. However, an exception must be made for Nancy Cassis, who is running a strong and vibrant write-in campaign for the Republican nomination for the 11th District U.S. Congressional seat.

I serve as the vice president of the Novi Board of Education, so I’ve had first-hand knowledge

and experience of Mrs. Cassis’ never-ending support for education when she served as our state senator in Lansing from 2002 to 2010. So, please don’t forget to write-in Nancy Cassis on your Aug. 7 Republican primary ballot. Mrs. Cassis has a solid, proven track record of public service. She will represent us well. Mrs. Cassis is an experienced educator who worked as a school psychologist for the Novi Community Schools from 1980 to 96. She understands good, solid educational policy. She’s looking out for you and your kids.

I could write pages and pages of her accomplishments, but the editors of this publication can only give me limited space. So, here are a few highlights:

No. 1, Mrs. Cassis saved the $2,500 Michigan Merit Award scholarships from the legislative ax.

No. 2, Mrs. Cassis initiated a landmark legislative package to prevent early learning failure. The “SAVE” program gives students the skills they need to succeed both in school and in life.

No. 3, Mrs. Cassis authored a bill that provides sentencing guidelines for sex offenders who live, work or loiter in student safety zones.

No. 4, Mrs. Cassis introduced legislation that streamlines information reported to the state by schools, so that your local school districts can put those budget savings back into the classroom.

No. 5, Mrs. Cassis authored a bill that establishes additional requirements regarding reading instructions of the renewal of teachers’ certification.

Simply put, Mrs. Cassis understands that a quality education is the key that unlocks the future for our next generation of students. For these reasons, it is with great pleasure that I endorse Nancy Cassis in her quest to become a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving Michigan’s the 11th District in western Wayne and Oakland counties.
