Replacing McCotter

From William Bernard, White Lake Township:

The law appears to be quite clear on (the special primary election) issue (to fill former U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter’s seat). By saying “Snyder should let McCotter’s seat remain vacant until the general election” (Spinal Column Newsweekly, June 25) are you suggesting that the governor violate the law? If so, shame on you.

As the for cost, if the electorate were more careful about the scofflaws that they vote into office, perhaps these sorts of things could be avoided.

As an alternative means of paying for the special election, perhaps the governor should do as he has with school shortfalls — reduce teacher and retiree pay and benefits (this always seems to be politically acceptable to most Republicans).

I have a better idea. Instead of a special election, institute a special charge just on the voters who put this idiot (McCotter, lest it be thought that my comment is directed toward Snyder) into office. While we are at it, we can institute a special charge on those who voted Bush into office for the billions upon billions that were wasted on Bush’s adventures in Afghanistan and Iraq.
