Westland man, 24, drowns in Pleasant Lake

 A 24-year-old Westland man drowned in Pleasant Lake on Sunday, July 8 after trying to swim out to a pontoon boat that was occupied by his family members.

According to a West Bloomfield Police Department press release, the man, identified on Monday, July 9 as Perry Levi Moore, was trying to swim out to the boat that was 100 feet from the shore. However, he started to struggle in the water about 30 feet from the shore and then went below the surface.

Family members tried to find him, and West Bloomfield police officers and firefighters joined civilians in the effort to locate him.

An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department dive team recovered his body around 8:45 p.m., about 75 minutes after the incident was first reported.

Moore was pronounced dead at Henry Ford Hospital in West Bloomfield.
