A man drowned on Thursday, May 24 while swimming in the Twin Sun Lakes in Wixom.
Police officers were dispatched around 3:13 p.m. to the area near Loon Lake and Benstein roads, but the swimmer had been underwater for at least five minutes prior to their arrival.
Officers observed a man performing CPR on the 49-year-old victim on the shore of the lake. Police officers and Wixom firefighters continued CPR. Ultimately, the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation revealed that the victim was swimming in the lake with his nephews and entered deeper waters. The man told his nephews he could not swim any longer and then went under the water.
A man canoeing in the area heard the nephews’ calls for help, pulled the victim from the water and initiated CPR.
The identity of the victim has not been released by Wixom police.
