VAWA issue rebutted

From Charles Schott, White Lake Township:

You can feel the heat from Joanie Ignash (“VAWA protections,” Mail Bag, May 9) when she vents her feelings about Republicans not voting unanimously for her passionate issue (the Violence Against Women Act). However she fails to mention that the issue passed with a majority vote: Her beloved spend-your-kid’s-money-Democrats have a majority in the U.S. Senate.

Where’s your tolerance for freedom of thought and speech? Our representative republic reflected the views of the public that the majority of us appreciate and acknowledge the difference between men and women — we don’t want uniformity. (Ignash) unwittingly furthers our President’s goal of separating our citizens into groups: Male vs. female, heterosexual vs. homosexual.

She mentions it in her letter: Democrats are picking and choosing which classes of individuals deserve created protection. I and Republicans greatly care for the protection of women against violence, regardless of their chosen sexual nature. You are creating a hate issue where none exists. It’s an outrage that you say people don’t care about a topic when they don’t pursue solutions as you would. Democrats: Don’t be hating those with whom you disagree. As our President preaches, let’s put the hate aside and have civil discourse.
