WB board to vote on superintendent contract May 18

Incoming West Bloomfield Schools Superintendent Dr. Gerald Hill

The West Bloomfield Schools Board of Education will look to approve a contract for its new Superintendent, Dr. Gerald Hill, at a special meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, May 18 in the West Bloomfield High School Media Center.

This comes after the board selected Hill, superintendent of the Glenview School District in Illinois, to be West Bloomfield’s new superintendent on Saturday, May 5.

Hill, 60, was one of four finalists interviewed for the position.

Specific details of the contract were not made available to the Spinal Column Newsweekly prior to press time.

Prior to the meeting, a public meet-and-greet event with Hill will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. in the high school Media Center.

Prior to being selected by the board, Hill was one of three finalists for the superintendent position at Wellesley, Mass. public schools and was one of eight finalists for the Minneapolis-St. Paul superintendent position.

The search firm of Ray and Associates, Inc. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa assisted the district in its search for a new superintendent.

Hill will take over at the end of the school year for retiring superintendent Dr. JoAnn Andrees, who took over as the district’s superintendent during the 2008-09 school year after Gary Faber stepped down.

Dr. Andrees had worked for West Bloomfield Schools since 1989 and left the district in 2005 to become the West Haven School District’s (Conn.) superintendent, before returning to West Bloomfield in 2008.
