A second fatal accident in as many nights occurred in Waterford Township on Sashabaw Road near Meigs Avenue on Monday, April 30.
According to Waterford Township police, 37-year-old Waterford resident Steven James Watkins was driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer northbound on Sashabaw when the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and struck a southbound 1995 Ford F-350 box truck driven by a White Lake Township man, 36, who was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Both Watkins and the other driver were wearing their seatbelts and the airbags in both vehicles deployed at the time of the accident, which took place around 10:45 p.m. Monday. It was unknown as of press time Tuesday, May 1, whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
