The Highland Recreation Area will be holding volunteer stewardship days on Sunday, April 1 from 1 to 4 p.m., on Wednesday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on April 29 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Volunteers will be helping to protect woodlands by removing invasive garlic mustard on April 1 and April 29. Those wishing to participate are asked to meet at the bike trailhead parking lot on the north side of Livingston Road between Duck Lake and Waterbury roads. All volunteers are asked to arrive a bit early because there is a hike to get to the work location.
There will also be another opportunity to pull out garlic mustard on April 11. This effort will be run by a volunteer steward. Volunteers are also asked to meet at the bike trailhead parking lot. For more information on this date, call Nancy, the volunteer steward, at 248-202-6885.
More information on stewardship days, as well as registration forms, can be found by clicking on the “Calendar of Volunteer Stewardship Workdays” link on the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website at michigan.gov/dnrvolunteers.
