Highland woman, 66, killed in car accident

Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Highland Township Substation deputies, along with the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit, are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred on Thursday, March 1.

The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Harvey Lake Road south of Dunleavy.

Gloria Donal, a 66-year-old Highland resident, was driving a 2010 GMC Sierra pickup truck northbound on Harvey Lake Road when she crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle head-on, according to deputies. She died at the scene.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was a 33-year-old Highland resident. His wife, 27, was also in the vehicle. Both had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Highland Township Fire Department.

The wife was taken by LifeFlight Helicopter to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital for treatment, while her husband was taken by ambulance to MacLaren Oakland in Pontiac. Of those involved, he had been the only one wearing a seatbelt, according to deputies.

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor at this time.
