A familiar face in the lakes area has been tapped to lead the Oakland County Airport Committee as that panel’s chairman.
Oakland County Commissioner John Scott (R-Waterford, West Bloomfield) will now take charge after serving almost six years on the committee. He will continue to assist the committee in its responsibilities related to the county’s airports, which include the Oakland County International Airport in Waterford; the Oakland/Southwest Airport in New Hudson; and the Oakland/Troy Airport in Troy.
“I am honored to be selected by my fellow Airport Committee members to serve as their chairman,” said Scott, who was first elected to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners in 2002. He is one of five members to serve on the Oakland County Airport Committee.
Scott will continue to work with every facet of the county’s airport division, along with the committee, which includes establishing rental rates for the hangars, “T” hangars to the fixed-based operations, as well as monitor all the county’s airport activities. These activities consist of fuel sales, grant acceptance for airport improvements, and meeting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulation guidelines.
Oakland County Director of Central Services J. David VanderVeen, also a member of the Oakland County Airport Committee, said he is pleased Scott was named to the post.
“Commissioner John Scott has served on the Oakland County Airport Committee for the past six years,” VanderVeen said. “He has a unique perspective in that the Oakland County International Airport is located in his district. During his tenure he has been a supporter of this important county asset and has overseen the beautification of its highway frontage, completion of the noise compatibility program, and construction of Michigan’s first ‘green’ terminal building.”
