Waterford man to be sentenced in March shooting

One of the three suspects reportedly involved in an armed robbery that resulted in one man being shot at the River’s Edge apartment complex in Waterford Township on March 26 has negotiated a plea agreement and will be sentenced later this month.

Waterford resident Aaron Padilla, 19, is accused of shooting a 20-year-old man in the arm outside the apartment complex located at Airport and Pontiac Lake roads. According to police reports, Waterford police officers arrived on the scene at around 1:45 a.m. They discovered the victim was reportedly trying to drive away from the robbery scene when he was shot. He was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Padilla was charged with several felonies, including attempted murder, but that charge is expected to be dismissed in exchange for his plea to armed robbery-assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. He also pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit armed robbery and felony firearms charges.

He is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday, Nov. 29, by Oakland Circuit Court Judge Rae Lee Chabot.

Previously, one of the other defendants, 19-year-old Brittany Pelton of Waterford, pleaded guilty to assault with intent to rob while armed and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. The third defendant, 19-year-old Marc Melvin of Pontiac, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a larceny on a person.

I grew up in Davisburg and the crime has risen so much through the years. We never locked our doors or had ever even heard of these types of offenses occurring because they just didn’t. The worst thing I can think of is young people (teens) getting caught by my father a few times stealing gas from our cars and he would chase em down be it on foot through the woods or by car and bring them back to our home. If hey were sorry and gave a good excuse why he’s give them gas and a few bucks and send them on their way. For some of the what I called idiots who were smart mouthed and not sorry he’s call the Oakland county sherrifs or state police to come and charge them. None of it went any where except in trouble possibly a theft charge and that was it. No guns. The only time we had our doors locked and guns loaded and standing readily available was during he riots in was it “64″ when the National Guard was called in. Otherwise we could go places never in fear like now a days. It’s so terribly sad.

You locked your doors in DAVISBURG?!? That’s paranoia.

The people in the area have called River’s Edge “little Pontiac” for 30 years.

Waterford’s greatest failure has been in proper zoning.
