Huron Valley Milford moved one step closer to a state playoff berth with a 45-0 thrashing of Pinckney at home on Friday, Oct. 7.
The win moved the Mavericks to 5-2 on the season and secured a third-place finish in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association West Division with a 3-2 division record.
Milford led 38-0 at halftime after scoring 31 points in the second quarter, as the Mavericks defeated a Pirates’ team that was coming off a 9-7 upset win over first-place Grand Blanc the previous week.
But, just like in their blowout 42-7 victory over Howell the previous week, the Mavs pressured the Pirates and forced six turnovers.
Brandon Wallace rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns for Milford in addition to an interception and fumble recover on defense.
Milford quarterback Alex Larson also rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns.
Linebacker Jacob Morton also had a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown, while Jacob Bravo also had an interception.
Dylan Polcyn kicked a 25-yard field goal for the Mavs, who have not lost to Pinckney since 1982, a 14-game winning streak, with both teams not playing each other regularly from 1984 through 1999.
Milford will look to clinch its first state playoff berth since 2008 on Friday, Oct. 14 when traveling to face Walled Lake Northern.
A win would also give the Mavs their first six-win season since their district championship season of 2006, when they finished 10-2.
