Eaglets victorious; West Bloomfield, Our Lady fall short

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s defeated Warren De La Salle at home, 35-10, on Friday, Oct. 7 to clinch a state playoff berth.

St. Mary’s is also tied for first-place in the Detroit Catholic League Central Division with Novi Detroit Catholic Central. The Eaglets and Shamrocks will square off at Shamrock Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 15 to decide the division title.

Grant Niemiec rushed for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns on 15 carries, including an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second half that gave the Eaglets a 21-10 lead.

Spencer McInnis also had 120 yards rushing on 16 carries, while his brother, Parker McInnis, scored St. Mary’s first touchdown of the game on a 21-yard run.

James Ross and David Talley also came through on defense as they each had 9 tackles and 2 sacks.

De La Salle fell to 5-2 and 1-2 in the Central Division.

The Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes Lakers fell to Royal Oak Shrine, 25-7, on Sunday, Oct. 9.

The Knights remain undefeated at 7-0 and clinched the Detroit Catholic League Intersectional II Division title.

The Lakers fell to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Intersectional II Division. Our Lady had won the previous two meetings with Shrine.

Sal Mastromatteo threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Ross late in the fourth quarter for Our Lady’s only score of the game.

The Lakers will next travel to face undefeated Loyola (7-0) from the Intersectional 1 Division on Friday, Oct. 14 in a Catholic League playoff game.

The West Bloomfield Lakers fell at home to Rochester, 31-17, on Thursday, Oct. 6.

The Lakers fell to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Red Division with the loss, while Rochester (2-5, 1-5) picked up its first Red Division victory of the year.

West Bloomfield will next host Oak Park in an OAA crossover game on Friday, Oct. 14.
