Lakeland claims first in KLAA North with division victories

Huron Valley Lakeland is alone in first-place in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) after two division wins this past week.

The Eagles (12-4 overall, 3-0 in the KLAA North Division) began the week by defeating Waterford Mott on the road, 25-3, 25-12, 25-17, on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Brittany Leonard had 6 kills and 3 aces, while Lindsey Tanner had 5 kills and 5 aces.

Lakeland then hosted Walled Lake Western on Thursday, Sept. 15 and defeated the Warriors, 25-10, 25-10, 25-15.

Ciara Schultz had 10 kills, 10 assists and 10 digs to lead the Eagles. Taylor Jackson had 3 solo blocks and 6 kills for Western (5-3-2, 1-2).

“I was very happy with our play this week in the KLAA,” said Lakeland Head Coach Jennifer Cottrill. “We were able to stay focused on our goals and took steps in reaching them. Our seniors are starting to settle into their leadership roles and are doing an excellent job of directing the team on and off the court.”

Lakeland played at Waterford Kettering on Tuesday, Sept. 20 after press time and will play at Walled Lake Central tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 22 before playing at the Portage Central Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24.
