Walled Lake Western picked up two victories last week by defeating Ann Arbor Pioneer on Wednesday, Sept. 7 and Waterford Kettering on Thursday, Sept. 8.
Nicole Morgan had 17 kills and 22 assists against Pioneer and 9 kills against Kettering.
Senior Maddie Longville recorded 18 kills against Pioneer and 20 digs against Kettering.
“Western has always been seen as an underdog team. I feel confident that this season we will surprise people with our talent and I look forward to seeing how the season pans out,” said Western Head Coach Beth Canales. “As usual, I train my team with a defensive mentality to make up for their lack of size.”
Western played at Walled Lake Northern yesterday, Tuesday, Sept. 13 after press time and will play at Huron Valley Lakeland tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 15.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes traveled to the Mt. Morris Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10 and fell in the Gold Bracket semi-finals to host Mt. Morris, 16-25, 20-25.
In pool play, the Lakers (15-10) split with Romulus and Imlay City before defeating Clio.
Lexie Robak had 27 kills and 23 digs for the tournament. Haley Howell had 56 assists and 3 blocks.
Devon Valent and Lauren Juliano each had 7 aces while Kristina Krupiak had 6 aces, 13 kills and 13 digs.
Kelly Meehan also had 24 digs for the Lakers, who hosted Cranbrook yesterday, Tuesday, Sept. 13 after press time and will welcome Marine City Cardinal Mooney on Thursday, Sept. 15.
