Huron Valley Lakeland won its Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North Division opener at home against Walled Lake Northern, 25-16, 25-20, 25-13, on Thursday, Sept. 8.
Ciara Schultz had 25 assists, 10 kills and 9 digs for Lakeland (10-4 overall, 1-0 in the KLAA North) while Brittany Leonard had 11 kills and a 60 percent attack percentage.
The Eagles were coming off a strong performance at the Saline quad event on Wednesday, Sept. 7, where they defeated Saline (25-15, 25-13) and rival Huron Valley Milford (25-15, 25-16) before falling to Novi (25-13, 24-26, 14-16).
The Eagles then hosted the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 10.
In pool play, Lakeland defeated Dearborn (25-14, 25-11), Northville (25-21, 25-19), Midland (25-13, 25-19) and Dearborn Divine Child (25-22, 21-25, 15-8).
The Eagles then knocked off Okemos in the quarter-finals, 25-15, 25-16.
But, Lakeland was defeated by Canton in the semi-finals, 21-25, 23-25.
Schultz had 33 kills, 70 assists and 26 digs while Leonard had 35 kills and 7 blocks and Lindsey Hansard had 64 digs.
“I thought that the team was focused and executed very well all week,” said Lakeland Head Coach Jennifer Cottrill.
Lakeland played at Waterford Mott on Tuesday, Sept. 13 after press time and will welcome Walled Lake Western tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 15.
