It was a rough week for Huron Valley Milford, as the Mavericks went 0-for-4 through the week.
The Mavericks (3-6 overall, 0-1 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association West Division) began the week with a quad tournament at Saline on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Milford fell to Novi (25-22, 13-25, 8-15), Huron Valley Lakeland, (15-25, 16-25) and Saline (23-25, 21-25).
Rachel Kopf had 13 kills for Milford, while Karly Shorr added 11 kills with her 3 aces. Erin Winn had 24 digs for the Mavs.
“The girls are working hard and I can tell they want to win, but they are fighting themselves right now,” said Milford Head Coach Jeff Stark.
Milford had little time to dwell on the losses, as the Mavericks traveled to Grand Blanc on Thursday, Sept. 8 for their KLAA West opener.
After falling in the first game, 20-25, Milford rebounded to win the next two, 25-23, 25-14.
Milford led 20-11 in the fourth game with a chance to close out the match, but the Bobcats came back and the Mavs fell, 24-26.
Grand Blanc would take the fifth and deciding set, 15-12.
“This is why you play every point and you win every point — I don’t care if we win by 2 or 25, you play every single point to win, period,” Stark said.
Winn had 15 kills for the Mavs, while Dagny Stark added 11 kills and 3 blocks. Mackenzie Zondlak had 24 digs.
Milford hosted Howell on Tuesday, Sept. 13 after press time and will welcome Brighton tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 15.
