Huron Valley Lakeland opened its 2011 campaign by traveling to the Macomb Dakota Invitational in Macomb County on Saturday, Aug. 27.
In pool play, the Eagles defeated Fraser and Troy in two straight sets before dropping the last pool play match to Lake Orion.
Lakeland then took on Farmington Hills Mercy, the current Class A state runner-up, in the quarter-finals and fell 26-27, 15-25.
Senior setter Ciara Schultz led the Eagles with 74 assists while senior middle blocker Brittany Leonard had 21 kills.
Freshman outside hitter Maddie Harris had 22 kills and senior libero Lindsey Hansard had 45 digs.
Lakeland will host Walled Lake Northern in a key Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) North division showdown on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes played at the Oakland Christian Invitational in Auburn Hills on Saturday, Aug. 27.
The Lakers took second-place in the Silver Bracket, as they fell to Grosse Pointe University Liggett School, 18-25, 25-23, 13-15.
Junior outside hitter Lexie Robak averaged 6 kills and 7 digs per game during the tournament, while junior libero Kelly Meehan averaged 8 digs per game and junior setter Haley Howell averaged 9 assists per game.
