Despite efforts to increase security at Gunnar Mettala and Willis parks in Wixom, another act of vandalism occurred sometime between Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7.
During that time, unknown suspects spray painted the interior and exterior restroom walls at Mettala Park, located at 645 Mettala in Wixom.
This is a second incident of vandalism at the park in the last two months.
Sometime between May 31 and June 4, a vandal or vandals tore shingles from the bathroom roof; ripped out a toilet paper holder from one of the restrooms; tore down athletic signs and discarded them on the ground; stole pavilion rental signs and a handicapped sign; and dumped feces in the women’s restroom sink.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) cleaned up the site.
On Thursday, July 7 the DPW was required to clean up the new mess. Much of the destruction was done to the brick walls of the men’s restroom and on the side and rear of the building’s exterior.
Blue, white, green, black, gold and green paint was used to inscribe phrases such as “Stay gold,” “Open your mind,” and “There is no real difference.”
