Waterford school kitchens OK'd for new countertops

The Waterford Schools Board of Education voted Thursday, June 16 to accept a bid of $113,624 from Great Lakes Hotel Supply to replace kitchen counters and cabinets in six Waterford school buildings.

The schools involved in the project are Beaumont Elementary, Burt Elementary, Cooley Elementary, Houghton Elementary, Schoolcraft Elementary and the Stepanski Early Childhood Center.

The other two bids for the project were submitted by Stafford-Smith, Inc. ($125,485) and Gold Star Products ($126,781).

The project will be funded by the district’s food service revenue fund.

The school board is expected to vote at its July 21 meeting on school meal prices for the upcoming school year. There were no increases in meal prices for the recently wrapped up 2010-11 school year. Elementary school students paid $2.50 for lunch, while middle and high school students paid $2.75 and adults paid $3.50. As for breakfast, elementary and secondary students paid $1.50, while adults paid $2.

In 2008, the district approved a 25-cent increase in lunch prices for the 2008-09 school year to offset increases in the cost of food, supplies and transportation.
