Pack up the family with blankets and bug spray, and park yourselves in Waterford Township on Saturday, June 25 to enjoy “Shrek II,” the first of two “Movies Under the Moonlight” features planned this summer.
The Waterford Chamber of Commerce — in conjunction with the Waterford Coalition for Youth — is hosting the family-friendly event at Pierce Middle School’s football field, located at 5415 Hatchery Road.
The showing of “Shrek II” will be followed by the presentation of “Up” on Aug. 26.
“‘Movies Under the Moonlight’ draws hundreds of families in the community and has become a popular Waterford summer event,” said Waterford Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Marie Hauswirth.
Drive-in movie food favorites can be purchased at the concession stand including pizza, candy, pop, hot dogs, popcorn and nachos.
Gates open at 6 p.m. Costs are a $1 donation per child and a $2 donation per adult.
There will be no readmittance. Smoking, alcohol, and pets are prohibited.
The movies begin at dusk. Prior to the show, kids activities abound, including face painting and temporary tattoos; rock climbing; a bungee Xtreme jumper; and inflatables.
The Century Bowl of Waterford will be donating portable bowling. A gymnastics obstacle course, as well as carnival games and music, will be part of the festivities.
A pair of raffles will be held: a 50/50 raffle and one to win a 2011 Chevy Cruze by purchasing raffle tickets at $25 each.
This raffle is sponsored by John Bowman Chevrolet. Proceeds benefit the Waterford Coalition for Youth.
For those not attending the event, but who want to purchase raffle tickets anyway, contact the Waterford Coalition for Youth at 248-618-7424.
Local sponsors include Best Source Credit Union; John Bowman Chevrolet; the Waterford School District; Coats Funeral Home; Tutor Doctor; Re/Max; Smith’s Disposal and Recycling; Bryan’s Neighborhood Coney; and Waterford Township Treasurer Margaret Birch.
