An Orchard Lake man foiled a robbery attempt by a car full of perpetrators after he returned home unexpectedly on Thursday, June 16.
The man, who resides on Commerce Road near Indian Trail, pulled up to his home around 9:10 p.m. when he saw a pair of black males carrying out his personal belongings. When the suspects spotted the homeowner, they dropped the armload of goods, jumped into a white van and fled.
The victim could see at least five people in the van.
The coins and jewelry dropped by the suspects were recovered at the scene. The homeowner listed a Michigan State University class ring, a man’s gold wedding band, and some miscellaneous cash as missing.
Orchard Lake police put out an all points bulletin on the suspect vehicle. West Bloomfield police responded and spotted the vehicle. They followed the white van up to the vicinity of Northwestern Highway and I-696 in Southfield, at which point the suspect vehicle began surpassing speeds of 100 mph.
According to West Bloomfield Police Lieutenant Tim Diamond, the chase was called off because police didn’t want anyone hurt on the freeway and chasing the suspects wasn’t worth risking lives.
Orchard Lake police are continuing to investigate the incident.
