St. Mary's ousted from state tourney by Grosse Pointe

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s was eliminated from the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state tournament with a 6-3 loss to Grosse Pointe South in an MHSAA regional semi-final at Farmington on Wednesday, June 1.

St. Mary’s had a 2-1 lead early in the match before the Blue Devils rallied to take a 4-2 lead at the half.

The Eaglets cut the deficit to one in the fourth quarter before South put the game away with two goals.

Evan Considine, Spencer McInnis and Mike Koenigsknecht each scored for St. Mary’s while Steven Keith made 11 saves in net.

Grosse Pointe South would go on to fall to East Grand Rapids in a Division 2 state semi-final.

The Division 2 state title was won by Birmingham Detroit Country Day on Saturday, June 11.

Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice won the Division 1 championship.

St. Mary’s finished with an 8-12 record on the season, its first season under .500 since 2007. Head Coach Greg Normand completed his fourth year with the team.
