Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes/Everest Collegiate completed its first step toward a second straight state championship by steamrolling its way through the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) district tournament.

Our Lady then won a district championship with an 8-2 victory over host Auburn Hills Oakland Christian on Saturday, June 4.

Head Coach Rich Ludwig said that he was very pleased with his team’s effort.

“My defense is coming together and playing well,” he said. “Our offense has done very well and our midfield has controlled the tempo of play.”

He also credited the strong play of Ava Doetsch, Our Lady’s leading scorer in the district tournament.

Our Lady will next take on Detroit Catholic League rival Marine City Cardinal Mooney in an MHSAA regional semi-final today, Wednesday, June 8 at Flint Kearsley.
