Sparks in the Park at Huron Valley Milford High School is only a few weeks away, but fund-raising efforts by the Highland Business Association (HBA) are ongoing.
According to Tami Flowers of the HBA and coordinator of the Sparks in the Park event, the HBA has been doing a variety of things to help raise money for the event, which costs approximately $30,000.
“People have been donating on our website (www.thehba.net),” she said. “We’ve been getting sponsors, and donation buckets have been placed at different stores and businesses around town. People will also have a chance to donate at the event itself or buy 50/50 raffle tickets.”
Throughout the winter, the HBA also sponsored poker nights at the Shark Club in Waterford Township four nights a month, from February to May.
“We just finished up for the year, but if the public wants to help us run those next year, it’s a good way to support us,” Flowers said.
Another way people can contribute is to go out to eat at a participating “Dine for Dollars” restaurant. For the past nine weeks, a different restaurant has donated portions of their proceeds for the day to Sparks in the Park. Skybox Sports Grill, Billy’s Tip N’ Inn, and Highland House, just to name a few, are some of the establishments that have participated so far.
“People can check our Facebook page and check every Tuesday to see which restaurant is participating,” Flowers said. “Then they just tell servers from the restaurant that they are there for Sparks in the Park.”
“Dine for Dollars” is set to continue up until the Sparks in the Park event, which is June 25.
