Boy, 12, stable after car hit him while on bicycle

A 12-year-old boy riding his bicycle on the southbound shoulder of Benstein Road south of Glengary Road in Commerce Township around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 29 was struck by a southbound vehicle that fled the scene without stopping.

The boy was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black and missing the right side mirror. As of press time yesterday, Tuesday, May 31, there was no other information available on the vehicle, and it’s unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the accident.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is asking for the public to help locate the responsible car and driver. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Center at 248-858-4911, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
