Walled Lake Western hosted rival Walled Lake Central at Dick Watson Field on Thursday, May 12 and the Vikings came from behind to pick up a 7-4 victory on the road.
The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead on two goals from Dalton Atwater and goals by Wes Raske and Nick Gallmeier.
Central fought back with two goals from Eric Rosteck and a goal from Lucas Wilson to cut Western’s lead to one at halftime.
The Vikings then tied the game with 17 seconds left in the third quarter on a goal by Matt Rosteck. In the fourth quarter, Central took the lead on goals by Bryan Maxwell, Nick Timmons, and Grant Kerney.
Adam Denis played strong in net for Central while Western goalie Blake Weinberger made 19 saves.
“The old saying ‘history repeats’ came true again,” said Western Head Coach Mark White. “Last year, we had a lead in our game with Central and could not finish them. But our players are young and will learn from these defeats.”
Central is now 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA) Lakes Conference. Western is 2-12 overall and 0-6 in the KLAA Kensington Conference.
Brighton clinched the Lakes Conference title last week with a 7-0 record, finishing ahead of Walled Lake Northern and Huron Valley Unified, both with 5-2 records.
Novi is the Kensington Conference champion.
