Thanks, Huron Valley

From Darlene Garrison, Director of Huron Valley Special Olympics:

Huron Valley Schools Special Olympic Team held it 12th annual district track and field competition on Saturday, April 30 at Lakeland High School in White Lake. Together, 45 track athletes from Huron Valley competed with a 40-member Holly-area team during the 2011 event.

Over 200 members of the community volunteered, attended meetings and came to our track meet to help make our day truly special. These volunteers make up part of our community, a place we can be proud of, a place we call home. These volunteers are an example of what makes the Huron Valley area a special place to live.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to many area businesses and individuals who donated so generously to make this year’s event another big success. It is community support, help and generosity that make it possible for our Special Olympics events to be successful year after year.

Huron Valley Special Olympics would like to sincerely thank all who helped make a difference through the years. I would like to thank our 2011 sponsors: B’Drizzled, Milford Grocers, Pepsi, Meijer, Kroger, Costco, Picasso Pizza and Better Made Potato Chips.

Thank you to the organizations: Milford American Legion AMVETS, Knights of Columbus, DESI, Treanor/American Warehousing, Muir Middle School Band, White Lake and Highland fire departments, the Huron Valley Board of Education and participating members of the special education staff.

Thank you organizers, coaches and supporters: Bear and Cheryl Hall, Don Treanor, Jamie Gradinscak, Jill and Dennis Peck, John, Jessica and Marti Schiltz, Dan Feiten, Julie and Eric Williams, Trina Buell, Laura Caldwell, Linda Donaldson, Marty Fallat, Kathy Ol’gerisson and our photographer Jerry Pas.

Huron Valley Special Olympics would like to express our appreciation to Greg Michaels, Lakeland Athletic Director, and the staff of Lakeland for their non-stop support providing the facilities for our athletes to practice and compete.
Finally, a special thank you goes out to THV, Inc. and its board members and supporters who raise money to fund Huron Valley Special Olympics activities.

Our athletes’ gigantic smiles were possible because of our dedicated coaches, volunteers, members of our organization, together with the Huron Valley community, all of who embrace our team and care enough about us to get involved.
