Two juveniles were caught recklessly driving a golf cart in the roadway along the 4000 block of Darlene Drive in Commerce Township at around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, leading to the arrest and arraignment of a third youth.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived at the scene to find a 12-year-old driving the golf cart while pulling a 15-year-old on a skate board. According to a sheriff’s department report, this has been an on-going problem with these two juveniles.
While deputies were waiting for a wrecker, a 14-year-old allegedly came out of a nearby house, jumped in the golf cart, pulled it into the home’s garage, and attempted to close the garage door.
Deputies instructed the boy several times to get away from the golf cart. While backing the cart out of the garage, the youth jumped onto the golf cart and started yelling at a deputy, who proceeded to tell the 14-year-old to get out of the way.
The 14-year-old allegedly came at the the deputy again and pushed her. Another deputy then told the youth to put his hands behind his back, which he allegedly refused to do. Deputies took him to the ground to handcuff him and he was then taken to Children’s Village.
As the parents weren’t home at the time of the incident, the boy’s father was notified over the phone.
The suspect was scheduled for a court hearing on Monday, May 9. He was charged with assault on a police officer and resisting and obstructing.
