Walled Lake Central pulled off a doubleheader sweep against Walled Lake Western on Wednesday, May 4.
The Vikings took the opening game, 6-5, as Central scored 5 runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth.
Nicole Rinz pitched 7 innings and gave up 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 4 batters and walking one for Central (6-8 overall, 2-4 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division). Devin Klein hit 2-for-3, including a triple in the fifth inning that scored 3 runs.
Central then followed up with an 8-2 victory over the Warriors in the nightcap.
Melissa Fannon picked up the win in the pitcher’s circle as she gave up only 2 runs on 6 hits. Krumm hit 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and 2 stolen bases while Sydney Glanz hit a double and 3 RBIs.
Central began the week with a 9-2 loss to Brighton on Monday, May 2 and also traveled to the Fred Pieper Tournament in Royal Oak on Saturday, May 7, where the Vikings lost to Warren Woods Tower (6-2), Utica Eisenhower (7-4), and Lake Orion (10-3).
Western (1-7, 1-3) began the week with an 8-1 loss to Howell on Monday, May 2 and went 1-3 at the Pieper Tournament on Saturday, May 7, with a victory over Farmington Hills Harrison and losses to Farmington and Livonia Franklin.
“One win out of the last seven games has been tough on the team, but we are improving and trying to make up for our voids in other strategic areas,” said Western Head Coach Teri Wozny.
Milford hosted Brighton on Monday, May 9 after press time before traveling to Huron Valley Lakeland today, Wednesday, May 11, and hosting Walled Lake Northern on Friday, May 13.
Meanwhile, Central hosted Grand Blanc on Monday, May 9 and will play at Waterford Mott today, Wednesday, May 11.
