Huron Valley Milford went 1-5 in six games last week, including four against two Waterford schools.
The Mavericks began the week by facing Waterford Kettering and getting swept by the Captains in a Monday, May 2 doubleheader.
Milford fell in the opener, 14-13, despite the efforts of Karli Pawlowski, who hit 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs.
Lauren Smith also hit 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles and 4 RBIs for Milford (6-13 overall, 1-3 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association West Division)
However, the Mavericks were able to rebound and take the second game, 5-4.
Vera Micakovic hit 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored, a home run and 4 RBIs for the Mavs, while Lindsay Smith hit 2-for-3 with an RBI.
“The win was pretty important because we haven’t played that well. (The MHSAA) moved the pitching circle back 3 feet to 43 feet, so it’s important to have good defense because anyone can get a hit,” said Milford Head Coach Vaughn Richmond.
Milford then faced KLAA West rival Hartland in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 4 and fell in the opener, 11-1, before getting shutout in the nightcap, 2-0.
The Mavs committed 9 errors in the first loss.
“Hartland has a very good pitcher and we just had a tough time hitting her,” Richmond said.
Milford then finished the week by facing Waterford Mott in a doubleheader and losing to the Corsairs 7-2 in the first game and 4-3 in the second.
Pawlowski was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles in the first game. Morgan Michaels was 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs and a double in the second game.
Rachel Martin also struck out 9 batters in the second game for the Mavs.
Mott (1-9, 0-4 in the KLAA North Division) was also swept in a doubleheader by rival Waterford Kettering on Wednesday, May 4, as the Corsairs fell in the first game, 7-2, before losing the second game 12-8.
Milford played at Huron Valley Lakeland on Monday, May 9 after press time, while Mott hosted Howell.
Mott will host Walled Lake Central today, Wednesday, May 11 while Milford is at Pinckney.
