Board OKs use of Tri-party funds for road intersection

The Milford Township Board of Trustees has approved the allocation of 2011 Tri-party funds and the beginning of the process to solicit bids for improvements to the intersection of Milford and Dawson roads.

Tri-party funding is made up of equal annual contributions from the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC), the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and participating communities.

Township Supervisor Don Green previously said that he expects the township to receive $26,806 from the RCOC and the county, and that the township will match that with $13,403 for a total of $40,209 in Tri-party funding for the year.

The estimated cost of the intersection improvements is $772,437.

The county uses a formula to determine annual Tri-party allocations and most communities can accumulate Tri-party funds over a number of years for use on larger projects.

The township has long proposed improvements at the Milford and Dawson intersection, but Township Clerk Holly Brandt said there isn’t a firm timetable for the bidding process.

Green previously said that once the pending $40,209 is added, $746,935 will have been saved for the project.
