Valley Milford went 2-2 this past week, including a split against South Lyon in a doubleheader and a split of two games at the Clarkston Invitational.
Milford (4-3) began the week with a doubleheader against South Lyon and took the opening game, 7-2, behind strong pitching from Kevin Bailey, who pitched seven innings, allowed two runs, walked six batters and struck out one.
Bailey had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning before giving up a single.
Jacob Lee led the Mavs with two doubles and three RBIs.
However, Milford would lose the nightcap, 4-3, despite a strong pitching performance from Scott Cazabon, who was brought up from the junior varsity team to pitch.
Luke Johnson led Milford with two RBIs as part of a 2-for-3 afternoon.
Milford then traveled to the Clarkston Invitational on Saturday, April 23 and began the day with a 10-4 victory over Waterford Mott.
The game was tied at 3 in the top of the seventh inning when the Mavs pounded home seven runs on six hits.
Lee finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Chris Orr, Beau Prey, and Davey Zilinskas each hit 2-for-3 in the game.
Scott Cazabon threw four innings before DJ Jaklic came in and threw three innings in relief.
Milford would then fall to host Clarkston in the second game, 8-5.
The Mavs gave up four runs in the first inning before rallying to cut the lead to 4-3 in the third inning.
However, the Wolves scored four runs in the sixth inning, with two coming on a Milford error.
“Our defense and pitching are in really good shape. We are just struggling a little to get our bats going. Our four losses have come by a total of 10 runs, so we are right there,” Milford Head Coach Brett Vaughn said.
“Clarkston was a really good team. They made no mistakes and we made one key mistake. Those are the types of teams you cannot make any mistakes against, but I was really happy with how we performed against a team of that caliber.”
Milford will travel to Grand Blanc today, Wednesday, April 27 for a doubleheader before coming home to host Walled Lake Western on Friday, April 29 and traveling to Waterford Kettering on Monday, May 2.
