Walled Lake Western went 1-2 last week to start the 2011 season.
The Warriors (1-3 overall, 1-1 in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division) began the week on Monday, April 11 with a 17-2 loss at the hands of Grand Blanc.
Western then hosted a doubleheader against Waterford Kettering on Wednesday, April 13 and won the opening game, 3-2.
Senior captain Jena Young went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a triple, and junior captain Sam Dennis pitched a complete game and went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The second game was a shootout with the Warriors coming up short, 18-5.
Young went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, while Dennis hit 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a double and sophomore Jillena Hussin went 2- for-4 with a double.
“We had some struggles with our pitching and catching and a couple too many errors, but we did some good things, and are starting to become more comfortable trusting each other on the field and more confident in the batter’s box,” said Western Head Coach Teri Wozny.
The Warriors were scheduled to play at West Bloomfield on Monday, April 18 after press time, and will host Walled Lake Northern on Wednesday, April 27.
