Board may apply for state grant for Hickory Glen Park

The Commerce Township Board of Trustees was expected to consider a written proposal by Wade Trim offering to assist the township in submitting a Recreation Passport grant application to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) during a board meeting last night, Tuesday, April 12.

The Recreation Passport Grant Program is funded through the sale of the $10 recreation passport that replaced the state’s annual $24 motor vehicle permit required to enter state parks or recreation areas, and the state’s $24 annual boating access permit.

The grant program provides funding assistance for local recreation needs through the development of public recreation facilities. Maximum grant requests this year are $30,000 and require a local match of 25 percent of the total project cost.

The grant would be used to help fund the replacement of the floating bridge at Hickory Glen Park. All applications are due by May 1.

Wade Trim is offering to prepare the complete passport grant application for the township for a sum of $2,600. For that fee, Wade Trim would perform a variety of tasks including filling out all application forms, providing construction cost estimates, including examples of the type of project to be constructed, writing supporting text explaining the purpose and need for the projects, as well as submitting the application to the DNR.
