Area metroparks offer Earth Day programs early

This year Earth Day happens to coincide with Good Friday; and as such, the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority (HCMA) will be hosting a variety of Earth Appreciation Day events this upcoming Saturday, April 16.

Free park entry and boat launch use in addition to special programs and park cleanups will take place to celebrate Earth Day at the 13 metroparks.

In the lakes area, Indian Springs Metropark will be offering free admission, a free small bucket of golf balls on the golf course driving range, and an “Earth Day Open House” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, Kensington Metropark will offer free admission and boat launch use. But the main event that day will be the park’s annual cleanup, “Keep Kensington Clean,” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The program is open to individuals, families, and groups. Garbage bags and latex gloves are provided. Rain or shine, the program goes on so volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. For more information contact the park office at 248-685-1561.
