Man drowns in friend's Walled Lake hot tub

A man apparently drowned in a hot tub at a Walled Lake residence on Wednesday, March 23.

Dana Rounds, a 50-year-old Farmington Hills resident, was discovered by his long-time friend who owns the home in the 170 block of Spring Park.

According to police reports, Rounds’ friend stated the two of them hadn’t seen each other in 10 years and reconnected the night before the incident. They shared a bottle of Jim Beam and decided to climb in the hot tub. The friend exited the tub when he started feeling light-headed.

When he checked on Rounds later, he noticed only one of his shoulders above the water. He ran over to Rounds, pulled him out of the water, and dragged him to the deck. After checking for a pulse, he attempted CPR, but Rounds was unresponsive.

Police and fire personnel arrived on the scene and found Rounds lying on the deck. There were no signs of trouble or a struggle.

The case has been turned over to the Walled Lake Police Department’s Detective Bureau for investigation.
