Council backs run/walk before holiday parade

A new run/walk event will be held prior to the Milford Holiday Parade on Nov. 26, following a Monday, March 21 Milford Village Council vote to endorse the event.

The event will be called the “Gobbler Gallup” and will consist of a 2-mile and 4-mile fun run.

The Gobbler Gallup will be presented by the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce and For Feets Sake, a family shoe store in Milford.

Race Director Dave Armstrong said the start and finish of the race will be on Main Street in front of the For Feets Sake store, and that races would start at 9 a.m., ensuring that the events finish before the parade.

The proposed race course begins at Main Street and extends through Central Park, down Liberty Street and up to Commerce Road along the Milford Trail for the 2-mile turnaround course.

The 4-mile turnaround course would extend farther down the Milford Trail, past the Carls Family YMCA.

Armstrong said Main Street would need to be closed from Commerce Road to Central Park during the races, but that the intersection of Peters and Commerce won’t have to be closed.

He added that he has spoken with officials from the Milford Police Department and Department of Public Services to consult on details for the races.

Insurance will be handled through the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce.
