From Marcia Brown, West Bloomfield Township:
After many months of anguishing over the false allegations and articles bashing my husband, (West Bloomfield Township) Trustee Lawrence Brown, I have decided to write this letter to the editor.
We have enjoyed a marriage for over 40 years and I would not trade a day being with him. For all of my married life my husband has been dedicated to volunteering for his Jewish community, having served on the boards of B’nai B’rith, Temple Israel and its Brotherhood, to name a few. He has continued to support Wayne State University and has served on its National Alumni Association for over a decade and is one of their Ambassadors. Even though he is a retired CPA he continues to be active with the MACPA (Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants) and other business organizations. However, his dedication to West Bloomfield and its residents for almost 25 years has been one of the most important.
He has helped previous supervisors when requested, served on the Planning Commission for two terms, was one of the originators of the Friends of West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation, initiated the Orchard Lake Corridor Study Group, been on committees to improve Orchard Lake Road and assisting the various cultural factions that exist in the community. I could go on and on but what makes me proud is that he has never taken any compensation for this volunteering, whether appointed or elected.
Currently, after consulting with the township’s professionals and having his fellow board members originally agreeing, he is passing his stipend for his services to a Water Benevolent Fund which has helped a number of community residents from having their water shut off due to hardship. However, now he has been attacked by some of his board members, which he ran with for office, over and over again and each attack has proved to be groundless and (he) has been found innocent.
If you have ever worked with him, asked him for his help or his insight, you would know that he has the highest degree of integrity for fairness, honesty and truth. Those few people who continue to attack him don’t know him and are only trying to dirty his name … well don’t believe it for one minute. Your friends, family, community and myself say to him, “Keep up the great work, and thank you!”
