Man dies when vehicle rolls backward over him

A West Bloomfield Township man was killed in his driveway on Tuesday, March 8, after his car rolled backward over him.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at a residence on Timberridge Drive, when 54-year-old Qasim Mohammad was unloading groceries from his 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser.

After he took one load out of his trunk and into his house, he came back for another. According to a West Bloomfield police report, the car then began moving in reverse on his slanted driveway and ran him over before stopping in the front lawn of a residence across the street.

Mohammad was pronounced dead at the scene. A police officer found the vehicle’s trunk and the driver side door still open.

The death has been ruled accidental.
